BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (WOOD) — Police are searching for at least one suspect after they say a man attempted to kidnap a child from her home in Battle Creek Friday morning.
Battle Creek police officers responded to a house near N. Wabash Avenue and Capital Avenue NE around 8:30 a.m. Friday after a woman called to report a “suspicious encounter” involving an unknown man and her children, BCPD said in a release. She told officers that her children were playing on a screened-in porch when a man approached them and tried to coax her 5-year-old daughter outside, saying he wanted her to come with him.
The mother heard the man’s voice and spotted the man near the porch at which point he fled on foot. She told officers that she had encountered him earlier in the week when he allegedly chased her and her child while they were walking to a bus stop. She described him to police as a Black man, according to the release.
As the suspect fled the scene, police said in a release, a white SUV drove away at “a high rate of speed” in the opposite direction from the man on foot. The woman told officers she saw an older white man inside the car taking photos before he sped off…
