KALAMAZOO, Mich. — A local church celebrated the expansion of their solar array field on Tuesday.
The Congregation of St. Joseph hosted a blessing ceremony for the solar array expansion at their Nazareth Center in Kalamazoo.

The array was expanded to add 400 kW-dc solar panels, which will produce an additional 540,700 kilowatts per year to power the center and save roughly $66,000 in utility costs, and avoid 528,000 lbs of CO2 emissions each year, the church said in a release. That equates to roughly 70% of of their daily use year-round.
“It is just to get us to carbon net zero, just to get away from the fossil fuels…I just think this is the way that will be best for our environment and for our children’s children,” said Patricia Warbritton, who is part of the leadership team of the Congregation of St. Joseph.
