A township tax mistake lasted for years. Now homeowners are getting the $16K bill.

KALAMAZOO COUNTY, MI — Forty-eight property owners in Schoolcraft Township are being hit with huge bills for two years of back property taxes, the result of erroneous assessments.

The 38 homeowners caught up in the kerfuffle will owe an average of about $16,000, MLive calculations show. One homeowner may owe almost $28,000.
