KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Aside from the natural sweetener they produce, honey bees play a large role in what ends up on dinner tables across the world; but American beekeepers have reported a record loss of colonies that experts warn could hit farmers, food supplies, and eventually, grocery store prices. A local Kalamazoo apiarist is working to help save the honey bee population one hive at a time.
Kerwin Skinner, self-named “Homeboy Honey” on social media, discovered beekeeping while researching ways to help his home garden grow organically.
