Teens arrested, 12-year-old sent home after gun-related incidents in Battle Creek

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — Officers with the Battle Creek Police Department (BCPD) said they responded to a variety of incidents involving firearms over the weekend, with some including minors as young as 12.

Friday, a school resource officer reached out to the BCPD Gang Suppression Unit after hearing about “a possible shooting involving specific individuals” at or after a homecoming-related gathering, police said.

The tip led officers to an after-party near High Street and Echo Street, where authorities said a 16-year-old was found with a stolen handgun. The teen was then taken to the Calhoun County Juvenile Home for possession of a stolen firearm as well as other weapons-related charges, according to BCPD.

Saturday, someone called police after hearing gunfire in the area of Wagner Drive and Emmett Street. There, authorities said they found a 15-year-old and a 12-year-old firing a handgun in the woods near the Linear Trail.
