KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Staff and volunteers at Kalamazoo’s Animal Rescue Project never thought they’d see the day where they were excited to do laundry. But after five months of a “catastrophic” water crisis, that day has finally come.
Since June, the rescue’s drain well has been in need of a $206,000 repair, prompting the Kalamazoo County Health Department to require them to stop doing laundry and bathing animals.
“We found out that the drain well was giving way, and that’s when the health department got involved and shut down the water use,” Jack Frost, Animal Rescue Project founder and volunteer director, said.
