Lansing man charged in connection with Jan. 12 fatal shooting in Battle Creek

BATTLE CREEK — A 23-year-old Lansing man has been charged in the Jan. 12 slaying of Israel Temple of Battle Creek.

Jordan Michael Yahsha is charged with open murder, firearms possession by a felon and two counts felony firearm in the shooting death of Temple, according to online court records.

Yahsha was arraigned in Calhoun County District Court Monday afternoon. He remains lodged at the Calhoun County Jail, held without bond.

Battle Creek police responded to calls of shots fired in the 100 block of North Wabash Avenue about 3:42 a.m. Jan. 12. Temple was found dead from apparent gunshot wounds .

Police subsequently identified Yahsha during their investigation, then located and arrested him in Lansing on Friday with assistance from Tri-County Metro Narcotics and the Lansing Violent Crimes Initiative Unit. The Kalamazoo Township Police Department and Kalamazoo Valley Enforcement Team also assisted during the investigation.

Open murder includes first-degree murder, second-degree murder and manslaughter. If convicted of the more serious charge, Yahsha could face life in prison without the possibility of parole.
