KDPS: Shooting victim arrives at hospital

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — A person showed up to a Kalamazoo hospital with a gunshot wound early Tuesday, according to police.

The hospital contacted officers while they were investigating a shots-fired call at an unnamed location. Police did not identify the victim or provide an update on his condition, except to say the wound was not life-threatening.

Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety said the patient’s mother arrived at Bronson Hospital on Johns Street around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday. She tried to push through closed-off entrances to see her son but Bronson Security stopped her. She “became irate,” according to police, and security requested help from KDPS.

KDPS officers informed the woman that her son had a gunshot wound that was not life-threatening but that he was OK. They arranged to take her to a private room to speak with a social worker about the shooting but she refused. She tried to push past officers again to get to the Emergency Room doors, which were locked due to the arrival of a shooting victim.
