Michigan County Official Busted for Shoplifting by Walmart Self-Scanning Cameras

Walmart security reportedly called the police accusing both women of not scanning at least one item in their cart

A Michigan county official is facing the misdemeanor charge of retail fraud after she was caught on camera allegedly shoplifting.

Kalamazoo County Board of Commissioners Chair Tami Rey was caught on camera with another woman scanning items at a self-checkout at a Walmart in Portage, where she said she was Christmas shopping on Dec. 21, MLive.com reported .

The video showed both women scanning items for a few minutes and walking out the door before Walmart security stopped them and escorted them back inside the store.

Walmart security reportedly called the police and accused both women of not scanning at least one item in their cart.

Rey, a Democrat appointed in March 2022 , is scheduled for an arraignment on Jan. 30, local news station WMMT reported .
