Police: Semi-truck driver ejected in deadly crash

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (WOOD) — Police say a 26-year-old semi-truck driver died after a Wednesday morning crash in Battle Creek.

It happened around 4:15 a.m. on eastbound I-94 by exit 92 and West Columbia Avenue, according to the Battle Creek Police Department.

While driving on I-94, police say the truck driver lost control, hit the guardrail, hit an exit sign and then stopped against the overpass.

The driver, a 26-year-old New York man, was ejected and died on scene, according to BCPD. His name was not released Wednesday.

Police say Calhoun County dispatchers had received also received a call before the crash. A driver said the semi had passed them at a high speed.

The right lane of eastbound I-94 was closed for hours because of the crash, according to the Michigan State Police. All lanes were open as of about 3:20 p.m.
