Deputies: Man killed in crash near Lawton

ANTWERP TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Authorities say a man was killed in a single-car crash near Lawton.

The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office said it received a report of a crash around 7 p.m. Thursday near the intersection of 62nd Avenue and 30th Street in Antwerp Township.

Investigators said a Lincoln Navigator was heading eastbound on 62nd Avenue when it went off the roadway and struck a tree.

The driver, a 60-year-old Mattawan man, had to be extracted from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the sheriff’s office. His name has not been released.

The sheriff’s office said alcohol and speed were both factors in the crash and the driver was not wearing a seatbelt.
