Kalamazoo museum offering free solar eclipse glasses, viewing party

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — A total solar eclipse will take place on April 8, and a Kalamazoo museum is offering ways to safely view it.

The total solar eclipse will move across the United States from Texas to Maine. In West Michigan , there will be a 90% partial eclipse.

At the Kalamazoo Valley Museum , there will be both indoor and outdoor options, with a live feed of the total eclipse from NASA indoors from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Outside, the museum will help people watch the partial eclipse safely and will have free solar eclipse viewing glasses for the first 2,500 people.

For those who will be watching elsewhere, the museum is also handing out viewing glasses starting March 1 while supplies last at the front desk. Looking at the sun without protection can cause serious eye damage.
