Battle Creek city manager retiring after decade

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (WOOD) — Battle Creek’s longest serving city manager is set to retire, her office announced Wednesday.

Rebecca Fleury will retire by the end of the year, departing sometime between Nov. 30 and Dec. 31, according to a release from the office of the city manager.

Fleury has held the position for about a decade: In October 2014, she became Battle Creek’s first female city manager, the release says.

“I look around and see a different Battle Creek than when I started — something I’m proud to have been part of,” Fleury said in a statement. “It has been my honor and privilege to serve with our current city commission, as well as previous commissions, in Battle Creek for the past ten years.”

The release says Fleury announced her departure ahead of time to give the city commission enough time to find her replacement. In the next few weeks, the commission is expected to start discussing the search process.
