Backyard Burgers and Brews Festival expected to draw crowds Saturday

While summer is winding down, things will be heating up in Battle Creek Saturday.

The ninth annual Backyard Burgers & Brews Festival will return from 6 to 10 p.m.

“We are thrilled to host one of downtown’s most exciting end-of-summer celebrations, bringing together our community and local businesses in a lively and festive environment,” Kara Beer, president/CEO of the Battle Creek Area Chamber of Commerce, said in an email. “This year’s Backyard Burgers & Brews Festival is not only about great food and music but also about showcasing the vibrant social district that continues to grow and thrive in our city.”

The chamber started the event nine years ago on the fourth Saturday of August to celebrate the newly designed and renovated Festival Market Square. The first year had about 1,200 attendees, with more than 12,000 stopping by the event last year.

Beer said admission is free to the family friendly event and the chamber works with the Kellogg Arena to provide two outdoor bars in the festival area, and promotes the social district in downtown.
