Man found guilty of November 2023 murder in Kalamazoo

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — A 35-year-old man has been found guilty of a November 2023 murder in Kalamazoo.

On Friday, the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety said that a jury found Laquay Lee Woodford-Paige guilty of second-degree murder and multiple firearm charges for the murder of 35-year-old Kemberlyn Dwayne Trotman.

“Today’s guilty verdict is another powerful reminder that justice will be served for those who commit violent crimes in our community. KDPS remains committed to holding perpetrators accountable and ensuring the safety of our residents. This outcome reflects the hard work of law enforcement, prosecutors, and the public, in seeking justice for Mr. Trotman and his loved ones,” KDPS Captain Danielle Guilds said in a release.

The shooting happened around 11:40 a.m. on Nov. 4, 2023, on Woodbury Avenue near Ada Street.

KDPS said that officers were sent to the area after receiving reports about multiple gunshots in the area. Witnesses said the suspect, later identified as Woodford-Paige, had fired two different firearms at a group of people and nearby houses.
