2 vacant house fires in Kalamazoo

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — Authorities say they are investigating two vacant house fires that happened minutes apart in Kalamazoo.

The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety said the first fire happened around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday on Humphrey Street near the intersection of Hazard Avenue.

When firefighters arrived, KDPS said heavy smoke and fire were coming from the vacant home. The fire was put out in about 15 minutes.

The second fire happened around 1:45 a.m. Wednesday on Sherwood Avenue near Riverview Drive.

Heavy smoke and fire were coming from the vacant home. The fire was brought under control in about 45 minutes, according to KDPS. The house was destroyed.

There were no reports of injuries in either fire.

The fires remain under investigation. KDPS did not say if the two fires are connected.
