BCC’s Williams dedicates every game to the memory of his late brother by wearing No. 56

BATTLE CREEK – Camari Williams had recently experienced the worst day of his young life.

Even though it was two years ago, he still remembers the moment.

He was sitting alone in the stands in an empty C.W. Post Field, thinking about what had happened.

As he stared onto the turf, he was trying to decide if football was going to be part of his life going forward. Or, if the thought of playing would be too much to deal with after his football hero, his big brother, had been shot and killed.

“And then, I just decided right then that I was going to play. Because that’s what my brother would’ve wanted,” Williams said.

Camari still relives that moment every time he puts on his No. 56 Battle Creek Central football jersey. The same number and the same colors his brother Chris Williams wore during his Bearcats career, prior to him being shot and killed during an altercation at his home in July of 2022.

Soon after that incident, Camari Williams was getting ready for his freshman year at Battle Creek Central, with a lot of emotions to work through.
