3 dead in wrong-way crash on busy suburban Detroit highway

SALEM TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — State police say an SUV traveling the wrong way on a southeastern Michigan highway crashed into another vehicle during the morning rush Wednesday, killing two people from Battle Creek and a man from Munith.

In Washtenaw County, a Nissan Rogue was traveling west on the eastbound side of M-14 when the driver tried to leave the busy freeway by using an entrance ramp.

The Rogue crashed into a Tesla that was trying to enter M-14 from Gotfredson Road, troopers said.

The Tesla driver, a 53-year-old man from Munith, was killed, according to the Michigan State Police.

The driver and the passenger of the Rogue, a 31-year-old Battle Creek man and a 27-year-old Battle Creek woman, were also killed, troopers said.

“The collision did cause the Tesla to catch fire,” state police wrote in a release. “It is unknown at this time if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash.”
