Harper Creek makes history. Volleyball team is No. 1 in the state for the first time ever

BATTLE CREEK – The Harper Creek volleyball team has just accomplished something that has never been done at the school.

The Beavers are No. 1.

Harper Creek climbed to the No. 1 spot in the latest Michigan Interscholastic Volleyball Coaches Association state poll, as the Beavers sit on top of Division 2.

It is the first time ever the volleyball team has been ranked No. 1 in the state.

“I don’t think we have ever been ranked there as a program,” Harper Creek coach Terra King said. “The girls were very, very excited. To be honest, I would rather settle in between four and six. I think rankings are something that just keeps excitement in the sport, don’t take a lot from it, it’s still really early in the season.

“Now we just have to keep the girls focused, head down and still hungry. Keep their eyes on the prize.”

Harper Creek won the Portage Northern Invitational over the weekend and came out of that with a sparkling 20-2 record ahead of the latest poll, which was released Monday, putting the Beavers at No. 1.
