Police find drugs, cash in search in Kalamazoo

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — A man crashed into two cruisers and then ran away before arrested in a drug investigation, Kalamazoo police say.

The Kalamazoo Valley Enforcement Team conducted a raid Thursday on S. Burdick Street near Balch Street. Officers say they first made contact with a 26-year-old who was in his car. They say he tried to drive off, hitting two cruisers on purpose.

But his car was “disabled,” police say, and he took off on foot. They say as he ran, he threw away drugs. He was soon caught and arrested.

The search yielded 2 ounces of fentanyl, crack cocaine (a Friday release did not say how much), drug sales equipment, ammunition and a “large sum” of cash. The release did not say exactly how much money it was, but released a photo showing bundles of $20 and $100 bills.

The suspect, a 26-year-old man whose name was not released Friday, was jailed on multiple felonies, police said, though the release did not list those charges. Police added that the suspect is already a convicted felon and should not have had any ammunition.
