Coldwater defends home field with win over Pennfield on Homecoming

COLDWATER – The Coldwater Cardinals got back on the winning track Friday, defending home field on Homecoming Night in the 28-21 win over Pennfield.

The game was far from normal as games usually go, with a first half filled with big plays while the second half became a defensive struggle that benefited the Cardinals.

Coldwater won the coin toss and elected to receive, then proceeded to march down the field in a methodical way before scoring on a 4-yard touchdown run by Kaden Roby.

On the ensuing possession Pennfield turned the ball over on downs, only to see the Cardinals drive stall, forcing a punt. On the attempted kick the snap sailed over Coldwater punter Manual Herandez’s head and was recovered by Pennfield’s Johnathan Lake for a 25-yard touchdown return, tying the score at 7-7.

On the ensuing kickoff the Panthers recovered an onside kick, before scoring on the very first play of the drive as Pennfield quarterback Calvin Paesens found Lake for a 23-yard strike. With the extra point the Panthers managed to build a 14-7 lead.
