Union City sweeps Big 8 cross country jamboree; Quincy boys, Bronson girls finish second

UNION CITY – It was only fitting that cross-country runners from across the Big 8 Conference descended on Union City’s Turtle Creek Golf Course on Tuesday for the second conference jamboree of the season, simply because it looks as though the path to the Big 8 Conference championship will run through Charger country.

Two jamborees down, two sweeps by the Union City Chargers as both the boys and girls teams took home wins on their home course on Tuesday, cementing the Chargers in first place on both sides of the conference race.

The Union City boys ran away with the win on Tuesday, quite literally, as all five Charger scorers finished inside the top 10 to give Union City the win. Union City won the event with 23 points, followed by Quincy, who moved into second place in the season standings with 70 points, just a single point better than Concord, who finished third with 71 points. Bronson finished in a distant fourth place with 105 points followed by Springport, Stockbridge, Maple Valley, and Reading to round out the standings.
