WAYLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Friday morning brought some Gun Lake Marina customers to the storage lots to check on their boats after a fire the day before.
An official with the Wayland Fire Department said crews were dispatched to the marina on Patterson Road near 124th Avenue in Wayland Township right before 7 a.m. Thursday. The call came in from someone passing by.
Additional crews were called in from Martin, Orangeville, and Yankee Springs townships when it was learned that three boats were on fire. Crews were able to knock out the flames within 10 minutes. The investigation was turned over to Michigan State Police when there was indication that the fire was set on purpose.
MSP: Gun Lake Marina fire was likely intentional
Brock Crane was installing power poles nearby when he started to hear the sirens race to the marina. He said he checked in with one of his truck drivers to make sure there wasn’t an accident at the job site first.
“We’ve seen a bunch of firetrucks going by, called one of our drivers, wanted to make sure it wasn’t him in an accident,” Crane said. “I basically pulled out, followed the firetruck down here, because that’s where our job site was at, as we saw the big old blaze going.”
