Lottery ticket scam hits Traverse City store for $10,000, suspects linked to Battle Creek

GRAND TAVERSE COUNTY, Mich,. (WPBN/WGTU) – – A Traverse City store is out $10,000 due to the same scam that impacted an Emmet County business previously.

“The scams occurred anywhere from Houghton, up in the UP, all the way down to south of Cadillac. The suspects seem to originate from the Battle Creek Area,” said Det. Will Bowen, Petoskey Public Safety.

The scam seems to happen where one or two people enter a convenience store to buy a large amount of lottery tickets and after their credit cards fail, they offer to read the number off their phone…
