Midwest Energy & Communications to expand fiber internet

Midwest Energy & Communications is set to expand its fiber internet service to more than 7,000 rural homes and businesses by mid-2025, according to a news release.

The expansion will cover more than 600 miles in areas including Adrian, Bloomingdale, Buchanan, Decatur, Dowagiac, Galien, Hartford, Lawrence, Lawton, Marcellus, Mattawan, Niles, Onondaga, Rives Junction, Saline, Sturgis, Three Oaks and Union.

The project is funded by the 2020 Rural Digital Opportunity Fund from the Federal Communications Commission and the Realizing Opportunity with Broadband Infrastructure Networks grant program from the state of Michigan.
