Planned Parenthood workers become first to unionize in Michigan

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Planned Parenthood of Michigan ( PPMI ) leaders have reached a collective bargaining agreement with workers seeking unionization after months of negotiation.

These workers were the first Planned Parenthood employees in Michigan to unionize after the contract was ratified on Jan. 22.

“From the beginning, we embraced this as an opportunity to further engage in open and constructive dialogue with our team members, and we are pleased to reach a mutually beneficial agreement that will further strengthen our organization,” said Paula Thornton Greear, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood of Michigan in a news release sent to 6 News.

Under the new agreement, PPMI says that they will create a process for addressing workplace concerns, implement structured wage increases, and provide benefits that ensure, “competitive compensation, including additional pay for positions requiring multilingual skills.”…
