I can remember waking up early with excitement on field trip days because it meant that I wasn’t spending all day inside of school building learning things that I felt to be irrelevant. Field trips were meant to be educational but as we all know, the information went in one ear and out the other, the field trip was really about enjoying the time away from school.
We have all been to sporting events, museums, amusement parks, and other places as school field trips. One thing we never thought about or often were prepped on, was what to do in case of an emergency. As a coach now, this is something I’m always thinking about and something I’m always preparing my players for.
There should be more of an importance placed on what students should do if something were to happen to someone around them, more importantly their teacher. Unfortunately, that’s exactly what happened on this field trip in Michigan where a teacher was injured while out with her students…
