KALAMAZOO, Mich. — The Western Michigan softball team dropped three tight contests to Mid-American Conference leaders Miami on Friday and Saturday at Ebert Field.
The Broncos (8-23, 2-4 MAC) opened the series with a pair of 5-4 losses to the RedHawks in a double-header on Friday.
In the opening game, Miami got off to a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the top of the first. Payton Kelly hit a lead-off home run in the bottom of the first inning to cut the lead in half. Casey Fazzini hit a RBI double in the bottom of the second to tie things up at 2-2. The RedHawks used a big fourth inning, scoring three runs to take a 5-2 advantage. WMU’s Jordan Smith hit a two-run bomb over the left-center wall with two outs in the top of the fifth inning to cut the lead to 5-4, but the Broncos were shut down the rest of the way. Kaylee Salyer was brought in to pitch in the fourth inning for Fazzini and kept the Broncos in the game by allowing just one hit over three innings of work…
