There are lots of risks packed into the severe weather threat today – including large hail and some quick spin-up tornadoes – but the most damaging issue might be the one that’s already in motion.
Destructive high winds are forecast to whip across the lower half of the Lower Peninsula for much of today. Gusts up to 75+ mph could buffet a big swath of the state. It’s enough to bring down trees and power lines – especially with freezing rain already coating some areas and making tree limbs and power lines heavier.
The biggest wind risk area today will be from a line from Holland to Lansing and east to Ann Arbor, and all points south. You can see from the Severe Wind Outlook map above just how much of the state the black-hatched area covers…
