Decades-long flooding in Kalamazoo spurs action with new underground tunnel project

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Wednesday’s storms left area-wide flooding in parts of west Michigan.

Kalamazoo Public Safety officers blocked off numerous streets to keep drivers safe during their commute.

“If you talk to residents that live in this area, it’s something that they live with day after day,” Public Works Director James Baker Said. “You know, they don’t worry about whether or not their house is going to catch on fire, they worry about is it going to flood tomorrow?”
