Holt, MI – A Flood Warning has been issued for Ingham and Kalamazoo counties as multiple rivers are expected to rise above flood stage following heavy rainfall across southern Lower Michigan on Wednesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids, between 1.0 and 2.5 inches of rain fell Wednesday, with more heavy rain and storms expected through the week. Rivers currently under warning include Sycamore Creek at Holt, the Red Cedar River at East Lansing, and the Portage River near Vicksburg.
At 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sycamore Creek was measured at 5.9 feet—just below its 6.0-foot bankfull level. Forecasters expect it to crest at 8.5 feet Thursday morning, causing minor flooding in low-lying areas such as the Lansing Municipal Golf Course and East Mt. Hope Road.
