Inmates left unattended in jail transport van for hours, internal investigation underway

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Seven Kalamazoo County Jail inmates were left in a court transport van alone for two hours Monday, according to a press release provided by the sheriff’s office.

It wasn’t clear in the release how the inmates were discovered, though it claims that after deputies found the inmates, “they were medically examined, treated for any ailments and returned to their housing units.”

An internal investigation was “immediately initiated” after the inmates were discovered alone in the van to figure out how and why this happened.

Staff involved in the incident were placed on administrative leave. It was not clear in the press release how many staff members are not coming to work because of the problem…
