Portage Public Schools promotes in-house candidate as next superintendent

PORTAGE, Mich. (WOOD) — Johnny Edwards has been named the next superintendent of Portage Public Schools.

The district says trustees made the decision with a unanimous vote late Wednesday. Edwards, who currently serves as PPS’ Assistant Superintendent of Operations, will take over the new role and enter contract negotiations on July 1.

“I am deeply honored to be selected by the Board of Education to be the next superintendent with the Portage Public Schools,” Edwards said in a statement. “I look forward to working with the Board of Education, students, staff, families and community members in continuing Portage’s commitment to educational excellence.”…
