A Calhoun County teenager was awarded the 2025 Michigan Young Hero Award for her efforts during a life-threatening emergency.
14-year-old Dakoda Carpenter received the award from the Michigan chapter of the National Emergency Number Association, or NENA.

On Dec. 6, 2024, she dialed 911 when she found her bonus father, James Snodderly, unresponsive from a diabetic episode.
