Remains of early Kalamazoo settler to be reinterred after nearly 200 years

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — More than a century after Kalamazoo’s first public burial ground was buried itself, community members will gather to lay one of its earliest settlers to rest for a second time.

The remains, believed to belong to a white male settler in his late 20s or early 30s, were unearthed during routine construction last November near Park Place and South Westnedge Avenue.

The Lucinda Hinsdale Stone Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), in partnership with Joldersma & Klein Funeral Home, will host a public reinterment service on Monday, June 30, at 10 a.m. at Mountain Home Cemetery…
