Battle Creek raises Pride flag at city hall for fifth year in a row

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — A flag-raising ceremony was held Tuesday in front of Battle Creek City Hall as the community prepares to celebrate Pride.

The rainbow flag was raised at noon, marking the fifth year Battle Creek will fly a Pride flag at city hall.

Deana Spencer, Battle Creek Pride president, said it’s a victory for inclusion, visibility, and awareness.

“Having support from the City of Battle Creek means everything,” Spencer said. “They are our leaders. They are the ones that represent us as a community. And just having that support and that recognition from them, saying that you are all included in that you are all seen and that you are all valid, means everything.”

The commission approved a resolution to fly the flag on May 20 following a 7-2 vote…
