KALAMAZOO, Mich. — The sentencing of a man accused of killing a Western Michigan University student in 2022 has been postponed yet again, nearly three years after the deadly shooting.
Myquan Deontae Rogers, 34, is charged in the fatal shooting of 22-year-old Naya Reynolds, who was killed in Kalamazoo in August 2022. Rogers entered a no contest plea earlier in the case —meaning he did not admit guilt but accepted punishment as if he had pleaded guilty. However, his legal team is now seeking to withdraw that plea, further delaying a resolution for Reynolds’ family.
Kalamazoo County Prosecuting Attorney Jeff Getting said Monday that his office does not support the motion to withdraw.
