Kayakers rescued from Kalamazoo River

PLAINWELL, Mich. (WOOD) — A group of kayakers was rescued from the Kalamazoo River Sunday evening.

Around 5 p.m., a group of kayakers left from a launch site near D Avenue and didn’t return when they were expected, the Plainwell Department of Public Safety said. A local business owner called Allegan County Central Dispatch after they were unable to get in touch with the kayakers.

Officers with the Plainwell Department of Public Safety were sent to Fannie Pell Park around 9:30 p.m. to look for the kayakers. Due to the potential route, they could have traveled as far as Otsego, so the Cooper Township Fire Department and the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office Marine Patrol were also contacted…
