Kalamazoo expanding downtown recycling in the fall

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — The city of Kalamazoo says it plans to expand its downtown recycling program this fall.

58 traditional trash bins will be replaced by 26 new Bigbelly recycling units, according to the city. The addition will increase Bigbelly unitsfrom 25 to 51, while relocating four to areas with high-traffic, according to the city.

Bigbelly units are solar powered recycling bins designed to help minimize waste. Units hold 47 gallons, which is nearly twice as much as a traditional trash bin, according to Bigbelly’s website
