AUDIO: Portage city staff asked to look into cutting up dead trees for firewood

PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – If there is one thing the city of Portage has plenty of right now its dead trees, as last year’s tornado left tens of thousands of trees ripped apart.

City council member Vic Ledbetter proposed a few months ago that they consider letting local residents bring their chainsaws and harvest them for firewood, but he says he has been told that there are liability concerns with that idea.

He is now proposing an alternative, that the Public Works Department be directed to turn the trees into firewood…
