BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — A second round of overnight fire hydrant flushing is scheduled to begin Sunday night in Battle Creek, city officials announced Friday.
Crews will be flushing hydrants from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. starting on Aug. 3 and ending on Aug. 9, according to officials.
Though hydrants are usually only flushed once a year, officials said this second round serves as a proactive effort to help reduce levels of total trihalomethanes (TTHM) in the water system as the city works to replace the aging well system at the Verona Well Field.

“Regular flushing ensures water of the highest quality for our customers,” officials said. “It also allows our crews to verify that our water system is operating properly and identify areas that require repair and/or maintenance. Additionally, it ensures that fire hydrants are ready for use should the Battle Creek Fire Department need them.”…
