BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — A resolution that proposed renovations to Battle Creek’s fire stations has been approved by the Battle Creek City Commission.
By a vote of 8-0-0, commissioners moved to approve the $19.8 million project from Schweitzer Incorporated, which seeks to do the following, according to an agenda document from the City of Battle Creek:
- Renovate two existing fire stations
- Renovate and add onto another station
- Construct three new stations to enhance emergency response
The plan also includes an additional allowance for furniture, fixtures and equipment, but that cannot exceed $1,500,000, the agenda document detailed.
“It’ll be kind of a fluid process as we move forward. You know, we had to set this not to exceed dollar amount to meet that, that total of $28 million budget,” Katie Norton, chief facilities officer for the City of Battle Creek, said. “So with that said, once we award this contract to Schweitzer, we’ll really dive deep into the value engineering.”…
