KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — On Aug. 9, Kalamazoo’s Ayurvedic Wellness Center will be hosting an outdoor birding event at Upjohn Park to explore the environments of urban birds.
The event is led by yoga instructor Seth Chapman, a birding enthusiast.
Hastings nature center hosts ‘social hiking’ event
“(Chapman) was one of our instructors right when we first opened,” Ella Trombley, assistant manager at the Ayurvedic Wellness Center, said. “He’s always had a great passion for birds, so he really started this up.”
Previous birding events led by Chapman include an owl spotting hike in January and a Baltimore Oriole informational hike in July.
“There are so many different types of birds in so many different locations,” Trombley said. “(Chapman) is trying to encourage other people to explore birds around them in urban settings.”
The event takes hikers through 2 miles of the Kalamazoo River Valley Trail. Guests are encouraged to bring their own binoculars and travel mug for a complimentary cup of chai…
