Kroger has acquired a largely vacant shopping center near Kalamazoo, though it’s unclear whether the massive grocery chain plans a return to the West Michigan market for the first time in decades.
Cincinnati, Ohio-based The Kroger Company on June 10 paid $10.35 million for a more than 71,000-square foot shopping center in Portage, property records show. The selling price was nearly $3 million more than the property’s listing price four years ago.
The retail plaza’s active tenants are a Chuck E. Cheese restaurant and a Rent-A-Center. It formerly housed a Joann Fabric and Crafts store, which closed earlier this year when the company went out of business, and Big Lots, which closed last summer…
