Kalamazoo County beats state average in student vaccinations, trails national rate

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Data from the Kalamazoo County Health and Community Services Department (KCHCS) shows how the county ranks against the national and state averages for back-to-school immunization rates among K-12 students.

“The main takeaway is that our vaccine rates across the board are a little bit higher than the averages in Michigan, but we are still a little bit lower than the national averages, and we’re a little lower than when we were before the COVID-19 pandemic.” Matt Johnson, KCHCS Public Information Officer said.

Over 90% of K-12 students in the county are up to date on required vaccines, slightly surpassing the state average of 89.8%. This places Kalamazoo County 32nd among counties statewide.
