Kalamazoo County designates $725K for affordable housing, support services

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — On Tuesday, the Kalamazoo County Board of Commissioners approved $725,000 in new awards through the “Homes for All” millage.

The county recently did a study determining the area was short 8,000 housing units, according to Kalamazoo County Deputy Housing Director Willa Ditaranto.

“When you have such a huge shortage of housing units in general, those that are most impacted are typically the people at the lower-income brackets because they have less money to go around in the first place,” Ditaranto said. “So having this housing millage has really been able to help us provide stopgap measures for those households.”…
