Feds: Battle Creek man had fentanyl disguised as oxycodone

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A Battle Creek man accused of intending to sell pills that looked like oxycodone but actually contained fentanyl has entered a guilty plea, officials say.

Nazzarie Carmouche-Heath, 29, pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute 400 grams or more of fentanyl, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Michigan. The office said his plea was entered Thursday, which was National Fentanyl Prevention and Awareness Day.

Authorities said Carmouche-Heath possessed and intended to sell more than 4,700 pills that were designed to look like oxycodone, an opioid, but actually contained fentanyl. He also had more than 600 grams of fentanyl in powder form, as well as two guns nearby, according to the attorney’s office.

“I hope everyone knows by now how deadly fentanyl is. Our office will continue to aggressively investigate and prosecute the drug dealers who sell it,” said U.S. Attorney Timothy VerHey in a statement. “We especially look for cases like this, where the fentanyl was disguised as legitimate medication, a situation that can lead to accidental overdoses by the unsuspecting.”…
