Kalamazoo to begin $60M investment to improve city drinking water

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — The city of Kalamazoo will begin a major infrastructure project to improve the quality, safety, and reliability of its drinking water.

A $60 million investment into the Eastside Water Treatment & Water Main Project is scheduled to begin Sept. 8, and will continue through November 2028.

This includes the construction of a new $50 million, 15,000 sq. ft. water treatment facility on the city’s east side, which will be designed to remove iron, manganese, and PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) from the groundwater, according to the city.
