KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — From Sept. 22 to Sept. 28, visitors to the Kalamazoo Mall and other downtown venues can attend Sounds of the Zoo, a free music festival with over 50 participating artists.
“It’s a very connected, curated experience,” Jennifer Hudson-Prenkert, founder and director of Sounds of the Zoo, said. “We need to support our local communities and support Michigan music.”

Across eight different venues — including Bell’s Eccentric Cafe and Bronson Park — concertgoers can expect an eclectic mix of local and international musicians, each with their own unique sound.
“It’s really important to be diverse and celebrate that,” Hudson-Prenkert said. “We also bring awareness to sustainability and mental health.”
Along with a week of indoor and outdoor performances, attendees can also look forward to an exclusive screening of “Kalamazoo Gals,” a short documentary on Kalamazoo’s guitar manufacturing history.
Since its free to enter, Sounds of the Zoo relies entirely on donations to support their participating musicians and provide programming for years to come…
