PORTAGE, Mich. — A bedroom candle caused a house to catch fire Tuesday morning.

Responding to what started as a bedroom mattress fire Tuesday around 2:30 a.m., Portage Department of Public Safety (PDPS) fire crews arrived to Cypress Street near Tattersall Road to heavy smoke coming from the windows of a multi-story home, according to PDPS officials.
All three people inside and their dog were outside and safe when crews got there, though one person had minor burns that were treated at the hospital and another had on-scene treatment for injuries.
They brought the fire under control within 15 minutes, however, the house’s first and second floor had sustained “significant” damage from smoke, fire and water…
